Deputy Brandon Alley and his K9 partner have been together for 4 –years. They are part of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit. K9 Titan is a 4-year-old Bloodhound. The Team is trained in tracking in order to find missing and endangered persons including those with special conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Autism.
This team is with the Titusville Police Department. K9 Jack is a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois. K9 Jack has been with TPD for 5 ½ years. Officer Cantalupo has been Jack’s handler since the beginning. K9 Jack is patrol and narcotics certified through FDLE and the North American Police Working Dog Association. Jack is also certified in trailing through NAPWDA. In November 2015 Jack was stabbed in his right shoulder during an apprehension of a double murder suspect. K9 Jack received numerous awards throughout his career including the Canine Police Service Award from the American Police Hall of Fame and the NAPWDA Valor Award for the November incident in which he was stabbed.
Officer Carr and his partner K9 Digo are with the U.S. Air Force and are currently assigned to Patrick AFB. K9 Digo is a 5-year-old Czech Shepherd.
Officer Clay and partner K9 Thor are with the Satellite Beach Police Department. K9 Thor is an almost 2-year-old Shepherd from Hungary. He and Officer Clay have been together since November 2017. Officer Clay has been a police officer for nearly 11 years and has been employed with the Satellite Beach PD for 4 years. Officer Clay and Thor attended patrol and drug K9 School at the end of 2017- March 2018. The Dog is Patrol and Drug certified through FDLE. Shortly after Thor and Officer Clay completed K9 School, they were called to assist Indian Harbour Beach Police Department regarding a shooting. The suspects bailed from a vehicle in an apartment complex. Thor was deployed and the team began a track. Together Officer Clay and K9 Thor located two of the guns used in the shooting and some of the suspect’s clothing hidden in a wooded area.
K9 Deputy Crawford and his partner, Jake work for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. K9 Jake is a 3-year-old Bloodhound trained in tracking, search and rescue and cadaver search. The team has been together for 2 ½ years. Jake loves his ears scratched and hates most water bowls. Jake is named after the late former Brevard County Sheriff Jake Miller.
K9 Officer Herrero and his partner, K9 Banner are with the Leesburg Police Department. K9 Banner is a 5-year-old German Shepherd. Herrero is originally from Puerto Rico and moved to Florida when he as 9. His first career was as a performer and horse trainer at Medieval Times Dinner Show. He switched to law enforcement in 2012 and transferred what he learned about horses to police dogs. K9 Banner was imported from Germany and purchased by the Leesburg PD by Kurt DuMond, a retired Lake County Sheriff’s Office unit trainer.
K9 Deputy Hubinger and partner, K9 Lars, is with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Hubinger became a law enforcement officer in 2012 after serving 6 years in the military. K9 Lars is a 3-year-old Shepinois, a mix of German Shepherd and Belgian malinois. The two have been together for 18 months. K9 lars is certified in drug detection and patrol work which includes criminal apprehension, tracking and building/area/article searches. The team has 10 suspect apprehensions in its first year together on the road.
Deputy Pinkham and K9 Baxter are with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. K9 Baxter is a 2-year-old Belgian Maliniois. Deputy Pinkham is from Texas and K9 Baxter is from the Czech Republic. Deputy Pinkham has been in law enforcement for 4 years and with the sheriff’s office for 2 years. He and K9 Baxter have been partners for one year. Baxter loves to go to work. Baxter also loves to be home with his family.
Deputy Leach and Parnter, K9 Stella are with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. K9 Stella is a 2-year-old Sable German Shephard. Deputy Leach has been with bloodhounds for 2 ½ years. He has been with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office for 5 years. This K9 team has been together for just 1 year. She is friendly and her favorite toy is KONG and tennis balls.
Officer Lewis and K9 Pieter are with the U.S. Air Force and are stationed at Patrick Air Force Base. Lewis is from Orlando and K9 Pieter is from Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Lewis joined the air force in 2012 and his first assignment was Holloman New Mexico. He then went on to Osan Air Base in Korea from 2016-2017. He then came to Patrick AFB where he is currently assigned. Lewis became a certified K9 officer in August 2015. Pete is his 4th partner. The two have only been together since June of 2018. Pieter is a 5 –year-old Dutch Shepard trained and certified in drug detection and patrol work.
Cpl. Rick Nelson is original from Palm Springs, California. K9 Thor is from Czechoslovakia. Cpl. Nelson began his K9 Career in 2002 as a USAF Military Working Dog Handler. He provided direct support in the protection of the U.S. president, vice president, senators, and foreign dignitaries. Cpl. Nelson also provided patrol/explosive detection support in operation Iraqi Freedom on 2 deployments. He joined the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 and the K9 unit in 2014. Cpl. Nelson and Thor have been together for 4 years. K9 Thor is a 6-year-old Belgian Malinois who has a high drive and strong will to work. His favorite things are playing ball and running tracks for suspects.
Officer Sanchez and K9 Scooby are with the Titusville Police Department. K9 Scooby is a 2-year-old Malinois. Officer Sanchez began his law enforcement career in South Carolina in 2012. He moved to Florida in 2015 and joined the Titusville Police Department. K9 Scooby is a patrol dog certified through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA). Scooby and Officer Sanchez have been a team for 7 months and they already have several narcotics and cash seizures. Scooby has three canine titanium teeth due to past injuries.
